Your dentist should be the first person you get in contact with if you have a dental emergency. Depending on the clinic and facility, they may have walk-in services, allowing them to help you with any issues at any moment without waiting. Choose Riverdale Park as your emergency dentist of choice.

Do I Really Need an Emergency Dentist?

Some patients get confused, feel apprehensive, or even get embarrassed to declare a dental emergency and get in contact with their dentist. Here are some of the common reasons to need an emergency dentist:

A tooth that has been knocked out. The dentist does not care how you lost your tooth – regardless if you lost it via an altercation, blunt force trauma, or manipulation. A knocked out tooth is a dental emergency that requires urgent attention by a dentist. If caught early enough, there may be a good chance that the tooth can be preserved.

If you have a knocked out tooth, pick it up by the crown. This will ensure that you do not contaminate the sensitive roots area. Rinse and clean the tooth with tap water. Do not remove any tissue. Put the tooth in a small container or a cup of milk. Call your emergency dentist as soon as possible.

A tooth that is out of alignment. If you notice that a tooth feels out of alignment, then make an appointment. Do not force the tooth into any sort of position, as it can cause infection. Your dentist may splint the tooth to adjacent teeth to keep it stabilized.

A chipped or fractured tooth. If a tooth is chipped and doesn’t hurt, then you can wait a couple of days to visit your dentist. However, it is best that you get to your dentist’s office as soon as possible, especially if it is hurting. A fractured tooth is more vulnerable, as it may suggest that the structural integrity of the tooth has been undermined on the inside.
